DESCRIPTION: A gall encountered by the 'keen of eye' mycologist and caused by the insect, the Yellow Flat-Footed Fly. Each gall is up to 1.5cm in height, white to pale creamy-brown in colour and covered in numerous pores. The apex is rounded and it is here where a hole appears and the larva exits, falls to the ground and pupates. DISTRIBUTION: Frequent throughout Britain. HABITAT: Found on the pore surface of the fungus Ganoderma applanatum. |
